Sergeant MAJOR DAVID B. POYNTER

Sergeant Major Poynter entered the Marine Corps on 26 August 1980.  He graduated from Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina in November of 1980 and completed Aviation Electronics School at Naval Air Station, Millington, Tennessee, in June of 1981.

During his career, Sergeant Major Poynter has served in the following assignments:

Avionics Electrician, H&MS 29 and HMM 261, Marine Corps Air Station, New River, North Carolina (1981-1983).  Participated in the Multinational Peacekeeping Force in Beirut, Lebanon during this period.

Avionics Electrician, Naval Air Station, Atlanta, Georgia (1984-1986).

Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina (1987-1988).

Avionics Supervisor, HMA 773 and Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department, Naval Air Station, Atlanta, Georgia (1989-1991).  Served in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm during this period.

Drill Instructor, Aviation Officer Candidate School, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida (1992-1994).

Avionics Supervisor, Marine Air Logistics Squadron 39, Marine Corps Air Station, Futenma, Okinawa, Japan (1994-1995).

Avionics Supervisor, Marine Air Logistics Squadron 31, Marine Corps Air Station, Beaufort, South Carolina (1995-1997).

Enlisted Assignments Monitor, Headquarters Marine Corps (1997-1999).

First Sergeant, Mike Company, Third Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina.

First Sergeant, Range Company, Weapons and Field Training Battalion, Parris Island, South Carolina.

First Sergeant, Hotel Company, Second Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina (1999-2002).

First Sergeant, Materiel Readiness Company, Materiel Readiness Battalion, Third Force Service Support Group, Camp Kinser, Okinawa, Japan (2002-2003).

Sergeant Major, Ninth Engineer Support Battalion, Third Force Service Support Group, Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan (2003-2006).

Sergeant Major, First Battalion, Sixth Marines, Second Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina (2006-2007).  Served in Ar Ramadi, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom during this period.

Personal decorations include: The Bronze Star Medal,  the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4th Awd) and the Combat Action Ribbon.
